@sheralmyst Thanks. That gave me a good guffaw. (I just had to use that old folks term!)
… Not commenting on you. I’m a senior senior. ![]()
Words are so 2024! ![]()
No Man’s Sky’s been nominated for best community support.
Do all nominees have to attend the stage? Or was that what lead to the Sean beer scene haha
They really should win every time. They not only continue to support the game, they also keep giving players what they want.
The incredible dedication, motivation, and perseverance of the small Hello Games team has garnered great respect worldwide.
And who expected this many free updates. Not me.
I remember last year some crowd sourcing was done online to vote out any game in categories like this that weren’t from the same year as the awards when finalising the Nominees.
People’s media literacy is truly dead or they’re so caught up in consumerist values that anything that isn’t new and shiny is considered pure and utter sacrilege.
Seeing all these games in the nominees this year has me wondering if those trolls were distracted by something else or if the VGA took a different approach with nominee selection this year?
Considering the huge boost that was Corvettes I really hope HG take it home, I love baldurs gate but outside of patching I don’t know what they’re bringing to that game each year.
Fortnite being there feels a bit gross, I mean yes they update and reinvent that game constantly and that is absolutely insane and dedicated but ultimately the game has become a store front to promote other IP and feels more like updating their Christmas display window than genuinely caring about their players.
I would understand attendance is not mandatory but for a small studio it would be a hard trip to pass up, albeit expensive.
I believe Sean Murray was in attendance last year not just because of the nominee, or the special timed steam VGA starship decal variant but mostly because Hello Games were revealing themselves as a Publisher for another studios game announced at the event.
His attendance of course got people very excited for a LNF reveal that never was and I expect everyone to be hoping for the same this year too.
I’ve tempered my expectations for a LNF reveal, but if you take a photograph of me, and enhance 100x you will notice a small twinkle of hope in the corner of my eye that I am vehemently denying exists.
Edit:
Using the site on mobile seems a bit wonky right now. Clicking next category brings me to the first again or to a 404 error.
Also that first section hurt… Can’t pick between DS2 or Hades 2…
And I know they’ll both be nominated for OST too.
I’ll give DS2 GOTY and Hades 2 music if I have to, DS2 had great music but I love Darren Korb (SuperGiants composer) as much as I love Hideo Kojima (renowned weirdo).
Edit ii:
Finally got the website to respond, it was timing out or stalling for quite a while.
No Mans Sky is also nominated for Best Ongoing <3
Sean Murray: says what he always says about LNF.
Hack Journalists: spins it into a clickbait headline trying to stir a panic
I hate the internet ![]()
BREAKING NEWS! Hello Games are a small studio working on two titles! Sean Murray reached for comment but the coward has probably run with the money again.
Another site reading into the message that Sean gives every update as if he’s never said it before ever ![]()
I’ve been sitting comfy in my “this is going to take a while” slippers since 2023 and in no rush to change into my “unreasonable expectations based on ignorance to the situation” runners any time soon.
I see a lot of people are still wearing the same pair they had in 2016 for No Mans Sky. Hopefully this time they blame the shoes instead of the game company that doesn’t even make the shoes.
I think the one thing I appreciated about that article is that it felt like it was written by a real human with an opinion and a thought. Lol. Which was kind of refreshing, in a very weird way. Many articles today either feel very “corporate” in their writing style or “very clearly written by a bot”.
Anyways… that note SM stated about LNF does seem like he wanted to give us an update and say “we’ve made a lot of progress” but “its not ready yet and wont be for a while so stop asking!”
But I do wish we could get atleast a development update or just some details about the game world. Maybe a new trailer, or some concept art to chew on for a bit.
Yeah. We be thirsty for another trailer, Sean!!
The concept art idea sounds very practical to add some satisfaction plus not discuss things that might change during development.
Maybe even show a smattering of varied player characters, flora, and fauna.
There was a strong suggestion that the corvettes update was, to some extent, a test for the mechanics of sea-going ships in LNF. If this is true (pensonally, I believe it is), then:
-
You don’t implement a new development until you’ve tested it. Therefore, until the launch of the corvettes update, HG hadn’t implemented ships in LNF. They’re still trying to decide how players transport themselves around the game world.
-
How players move around the game world is pretty fundamental to all aspects of gameplay. It affects interaction, settlement patterns, economy, combat and discovery. If they haven’t nailed transport yet, then they can’t have finalised any of the other aspects of gameplay.
The corvettes really did not work well in multiplayer. If that had been my test, I would have counted that as a “fail”. And that’s just the transport. I think the release of Light No Fire is a long way off.
My first thought too. Corvettes was the buggiest update yet so I thought, wow! They have some serious kinks to smooth out
This could be a result of the port, though. NMS multiplayer code is a case of “hysterical growth” as we call it in the software industry (which tends to be used as a more honest form of “historical growth”), while LNF had the advantage to be designed for multiplayer since day 1. So if there’s one part of the code base that I’d expect to be significantly different in both games, it’s that.
If they implemented the feature in LNF and then ported it over to NMS, it is very possible that the ensuing buginess in MP is a result of trying to make the thing work with NMS’ synchronisation model.
