What changed? I noticed that I got half a dozen notifications for things that happened in 2020 or so.
When I hit the 3 bars next to my icon, the menu button I think it is. I get a different list than I used to. I used to tap that to see unread items that had posted in new threads…kept me from missing anything. Now it is gone.
Yup, I miss the unread page link too. ![]()
The URL https://forums.atlas-65.com/unread is still accessible, but I can’t tell at the moment if it functions properly.
UPDATE: Okay, so looks like the “Everything” menu item now shows a dot when there are unread posts, and the “Unread” category on the page is only visible when you actually have unread posts. So not too different, just caused a bit of confusion at first.
That icon is officially called the “Hamburger”, or the “Hamburger menu”, in UI terminology.
Hello Games must have employed an ex-Microsoft employee to manage the Atlas-64 (ETARC) forum ![]()
Just randomly ‘update’ things that are fine the way they are with a happy population of users because some bright spark feels the need to impress & simply moves stuff around.
I’d love to have a rant about this and other similarly irritating modern world decisions, (like automotive geniuses sticking $20 actuators behind 5 hours labour worth of dasboard removal) but I fear I may end up exploding in an embarrassing puff of 1st world problem rage ![]()
It’s usually DevlinPixy that goes around cleaning up. Frankly, except from a couple notifications I don’t notice a thing, but then, the notifications and latest list I hardly ever use anything here, so I probably wouldn’t notice.
Thanks for.the info @Argh and @jedidia . And I agree with @Mad-Hatter … I could rant all day ![]()
At least unread still shows when there is a new post in a new thread otherwise, I was gonna have to manually scan thru the Topics lists…
Think I will have a hamburger for lunch ![]()
Perhaps this?
Or the “stack” menu. Since I’m trying to cut down on red meat, I think I’ll call it the “short stack” (pancakes) menu. ![]()
and now … for something completely different…

Shouldn’t blue origin first get orbital capabilities before planning to land on the moon? ![]()
Or are they counting on Artemis to get them there?
So for clarification, when there are posts waiting to be read, you can tap the short stack hamburger and there will be a blue dot next to Everything. That will open a list with the unread post highlighted. Posts that are replies or mention your name continue to place a notice on your personal icon.
EDIT: but apparently there is no way to find just the Waypoint topics in a list? I keep coming back to the Everything list which includes all the old stuff. This is a pain…
Ok. You have to then tap this little box in the top left and select Catagories
I’ve always used the Categories drop down list and chosen Unread option if it shows unread items.
Sometimes I choose Latest to see if a new topic interests me.
Has there been a change?
When tapping the hamburger
it used to show unread right there. Now it does not. Now you tap Everything and then choose latest from the next screen. Choose Categories to find one you want to post in. Just extra tapping now to get where I want to be. I am on Android so I am not sure if the change is universal.
Yup, universal, occurs on PC and iOS too. Takes an extra page-load & click to get to Unread now. Not the end of the world, but was definitely easier to quickly go through new posts before, especially on mobile.
I’m using a mobile browser and I always click the Atlas symbol (top left A) to get the list of unread topics…? It lists all active topics with some marked with a blue number. Oh I see, that’s the same as "Everything ".
Thanks for that. Never knew you could tap the atlas logo… ![]()
Answer 8+7+2. But how the @#$! does that help?
(at least I think that is the answer according to the second box of 10) but the wording…
I understand that if we make 10, the problem is easier. So take 2 from 9 and add it to 8 to make 10 to leave 7 from the 9 thus making the problem 10+7=17. But good grief. I learned that but without the confusion way back when.
Old math way (I know 9+9 is 18 and 8 is 1 less so the answer is 17)
Nope, neither do I… ![]()
Here is an example of common core math
Ridiculous. First off, I have always added to subtract. Noone taught me that. But in this instance, I know I need 0 to get from 2 to 2 in the 1s column and 2 to get from 1 to 3 in the 10s column therefore the answer is 20. I can figure that at a glance and quickly. How do you function in everyday life if you have to use a factor tree every time you need to figure something?
Oh and we did factor trees galore way back in the day. I know how the numbers relate.
This article states that rote memorization keeps people from learning how numbers relate…I wonder what they do when it comes to geometry and trig…
On the flip side, I was taught this as a ‘trick’ to easy math way back when
Common core makes much use of visuals but it was the same for me way back when…not really so different. Many states here have given up common core and gone back to old math because too many students cannot grasp the concept.
Basically, it seems they cannot accept the fact that some people will simply never excel at math.
