Getting a laugh out of life

Ah, martian green this time around?

Okay so this look has finally made its way here… I know I’m digging up an old post but when I saw the advertisement pop up during a youtube video, I got flashbacks to this conversation that was had earlier in the year.

It wasn’t a typo on Glossy… the “glassy” look is a thing now… And it’s terrifying. I saw an ad for a full face mask that gives the “glassy” look and I’m pretty sure it gave me nightmares because I cannot remember my dreams from last night after watching it.

They look oily and embalmed or something. Like, scary porcelain doll people.

Mask On

Mask Off

I do not understand nor do I want to understand.

I can’t help but think this"look" is an awful like something AI would create. Maybe these women are some who have looked at so much AI generated slop, it has altered their view of what is real. They have that nauseating unreal look about them

That’s what I was thinking but too afraid to say out loud. The organic feedback loop of too much AI generated slop has altered their perceptions?

I was visiting my uncle in a nursing home today and they had a youtube video playlist on of just endless scenic vistas set to some old timey relaxing music… Aerial Drone style flyovers of lakes and forests and mountains.

All of the imagery was AI generated and I don’t think anyone working there had time to care or notice because obviously they’ve a lot more on their plate. But it was driving me mad. The staffs standard of care is FANTASTIC but their standard for not being bothered by clearly unnatural imagery was very low

The most unsettling thing about it though was it had this dust and scratches effect laid overtop, despite the imagery being unimagineably vibrant, as if this somehow means its for old people. Which means whoever made it, did so with the purpose of directing it specifically at nursing homes. Probably even has a name like “BEST VIDEO TO PLAY FOR RELAXING NURSING HOME VIBES TOP 100 YOUTUBE”. The occasional youtube ad also upset me. People with dementia just parked in front of an endless stream of AI visuals and ADS every 2 minutes. Someone is making ad revenue off of this and they don’t care that it probably isn’t helping anyone.

Oh yeah the other weird thing I noticed, sometimes it would fly over idyllic villages in these remote nature scenes and thats when I realised. No cars. No people. Which then also made me realise, not a single animal was seen in any of the wilderness shots. Not one bird. Nothing.

I once thought a VR headset with virtual tours for bed-ridden & the very elderly would be a fantastic use of VR technology. Wandering mountains, visiting ruins, maybe even a virtual world to interact with.
Now, with AI crap seeping into every facet or our entertainment, it feels like a terrible idea.
Sort of dangerous or toxic.
I can’t help thinking of that Simon Stålenhag artbook ‘The Electric State’ with all the zombified humans wearing glitched headsets.

Over here, we still have satellite TV. Dish Network runs a couple of channels called Dishscapes. They are entertaining. Completely CG. Nothing real about them except for the occasions where they use a live actor in a Bigfoot suit…yes. There is a Bigfoot in each scene and that is what makes them worth watching. I think those seniors would be better off with that than what you describe.
There are at least CG animals that swim, fly and walk thru the scene. And the sound effects are nice.
There are whole communities built around these scenes and especially the hunt for Bigfoot

I’ve noted that Asian dramas tend to have young female characters applying things to make their facial skin look “shiny,” which some how is also equated to “smooth.”

It’s advertizer-driven to sell more cosmetic goods to women. :face_with_diagonal_mouth:. Not a good look, to me.

It’s along the same lines to me as the shoe even horizon - this cannot be comfortable nor very good for you.
