Aquarius-Let's Go Fishin'

Quiet fame is best fame. I had accidentally layed the foundation for a major meme (in a particular niche group) some… errr… 15-ish years ago? And the blasted thing still keeps showing up, and it keeps giving me a smile every time I see it, even though almost nobody knows that I’m responsible for the initial mistake that lead to its birth.

Now have 4 Rare fish in my fishing record but still not the blob looking shadow in the record. Setting up fishing shacks in different biomes so I can easily return to each one.
In conditions like this, I am bound to catch something good right? So glad I could not see the wave that was over my head.

Tried Bone Cream

and Nourishing Slime… I was not going to eat it anyway

Oh gang are you ready for an adventure? Are you ready to learn about a failing-simulation-level of weirdness? I grabbed some fish from the three traps I have on a temperate planet in my main save…

My first experiment was to see if there was a difference in stats between the class of fish and also if the stats were random each time you cooked a fish. I had two B class fish and about 7 C class (each C class had 2-3 of the same fish type). I began cooking then one at a time. The two B class cooked fine. Cooking the C class however, was a (fishing) trip.

The first 3 fish I cooked were of the same fish type. Each one cooked into a different food item. The next 3 fish type when cooked doubled the output, so I ended up with more than I started with. Please note the ratio for cooking these fish is 1:1. The next set of fish I cooked cooked into more fish. Those uncooked-cooked fish then themselves cooked into a single food item type.

I don’t know what’s an actual game bug and what’s just the game being the game. eye twitch

So! Below is the results of my testing and what stats the food items give as bait. I didn’t write down the fish names that each food item came from as I was not focused on that with my testing. I’m going to get more traps out and do some fishing and start getting everything recorded for the next post.

I spent the last hour making what I could with ingredients in the nutrient processor just to see if I could stumble on to anything easy to make with a high percentage in both categories, other notes being a bonus.

It’s nice to have a reason besides money and box ticking to cook things now, I didn’t really bother too much with it in the past, would just try out some new recipes on an update day and get frustrated not having the room to store so many variants.

Some of the highest I’ve seen so far are (I took screens but typing them out is probably quicker and more beneficial for later searching)

Pilgrims Tonic is easy to make from starbulb and might be my current stand-by.

Fibrous Stew is another handy one as it’s just two of either pulpy roots, sievert beans, jade peas, impulse beans, solartillo, mushrooms, sweetroot or a combination of one from two items in that list.

Fibrous Stew can be taken one step further after being made by adding sauce (creamy, scorching, flavoursome or liquid cheese) but I have not tried to see if it makes much of a difference.

Fiery stew (Scorching Sauce) is worse than Fibrous Stew, Adding Flavoursome Sauce is the best (could not try liquid cheese variant) and Flavoursome Sauce is easy to make (steamed vegetables x 2)

@The_Corsair You should let those cooked-fish fish free into the water, they were born of science and must experience all that life has to offer.

Here is my list of single fish, cooked food with bait stats. Prob missing fish I’m sure. It appears that the Class of fish does not matter. The same type of fish cook into the same type of food. The fish type is not always clear; for instance Whipsering Bonefish and Marrow Shark make Brined Flesh. Class also does not seem to affect the stats that the food has as bait, with some bait made from B class having better stats then an A class food. I’m assuming the stats are static based on the end product and not what went into making them. I’m interested to see how this changes when I start making 2 and 3 fish foods. Should be really interesting when I start mixing the fish with the existing ingredients. Fish ice cream anyone?

time to sleep. note to self: check if different rods have an effect on the stats of the bait used

I was having trouble with the first milestone to catch something that isn’t a fish.

I’d built my Fishing Rig on an overcharged slot. I realised this might be increasing my chance of catching Fish and therefore reducing my chance of catching Flotsam.

Now I’m not saying this confirms it was doing this, it could have just been entirely a string of bad luck followed by coincidence, but after taking the rig off the overcharged slot, I caught three flotsam in a row ’ ^ _^

So its possible the two fishing lines might be slightly better in stats too? I actually forgot to install it after coming back from the expedition. It’s very pretty but I do like how the default Rod looks like it was patched together by an Autophage.

The Fishing spots I’ve been using so far, I’ve been searching for based off of the planets unique Flora. Starbulb, Solanium etc. I figured this was the best indicator for the Fish type

I was moving on to find a fungal spore planet with water and I happened upon a planet with water but no unique Flora item (Misty Planet with the giant Swamp trees, vile brood detected).

I was curious if maybe water planet with no unique flora item would be its own category of fish.

Turns out it’s all weather dependant, so this Swamp planet had Toxic weather and gave me Toxic fish as a result.

Just in case I’m not the last person to figure this out

So I’ve caught fish in radiated planets, scorching planets, lush/humid/temperate, frost and dry/desert, in an attempt to figure out where the last page of fish live for that strange unique cloudy looking thing.

edit:
I should add, Swamp planets are unique as they can have different weather types. One gave me Toxic fish like on a Fungal Mold planet (it had highly toxic storms) and the other gave me lush/temeperate fish like on a Starbulb Planet (it had very low tox/rad levels, painful mist weather)

I still can’t figure out which batch of fish are the last batch? I’m gonna guess it’s an exotic planet but I can’t recall ever seeing one with water? If I have it’s been a loooong time.

Or maybe they’re robotic fish that can be found on any uninhabited system with robotic creatures?

That’s what I’m going to try today, fish on a robotic planet and try and find an exotic with water 07

I think I figured out where to find the fish at the end of the list.

Blurring for those who’d prefer to seek them out naturally.

I can’t say for certain it’s all exotic planet types but that’s certainly the requirement. I had been to swamp ones with varying fish depending on weather from the other Fish Pools, and one of the volcano ones which gave Scorched biome fish like Solanium planets, so I was giving up hope I’d find them.

Next system I came across an exotic planet saying it was an “Azure Planet”. I was anticipating another dud that would offer up lush biome fish. That’s when I found my first fish from the last pool in the list.

It was one of those planets with the giant underwater plants growing on the planet surface.

It’s possible you will find them in other similar exotic planets with water but for now if you want to start catching them immediately aim for your nearest Azure Planet or any similar planet biome with giant Underwater like flora on the surface

“Found within the unsettling waters that ripple across their haunted homeworlds”

The first thing I pulled out of the water was extremely lucky, I got a legendary I had not caught yet from the “found on all worlds” pool. Catching a fish on the second try from the last fishing pool on the list was the cherry on top :slight_smile: I just had mealworm bait too ;0;

Currently fishing a crimson planet in a red system and catching new things
The description gives clues I guess? The uncommon fish I have found on this crimson planet state they live in haunted waters.
My favorite catch so far because the name is so rhythmic.

So it’s a race to the mystery smokey thing? I keep telling myself it’s not in the game yet because I’m worried I’ll end up on a wild goose chase otherwise.

Also I know I joked that it was one of the ghost pokemon but the fact they are on “haunted homeworlds” now has me convinced it’s a frickin Ghastly, and this is the second franchise crossover for NMS after Mass Effect :stuck_out_tongue:

Or maybe it’s a Palworld “pokemon” XD Now that would be newsworthy!

All jokes aside, Can’t wait to find this smokey fish

Maybe its the smoke monster from lost? No, I said no more jokes. So you know I mean it this time.

edit:

Minor Legendary Fish spoiler

(and lore related too)

I just caught a Child of Helios ;0; I guess they start off life small and oceanbound <3

They must birth their young on ocean planets before they are ready for the big black above

“Its song resonates across time and space, calling to its home in the endless black above. One day, it will rise and return to its home among the stars.”
