Oh my, I remember playing that! It had fun game mechanics with climbing and flying and dragging. I recommend it (well, mostly for children, but also for silly adults)
Does anyone know if fishing results are influenced by the quality of the multi-tool?
Things I ponderâŠ
As far as I can tell, not a thing, itâs all down to the bait.
Throwing a fishing rod on a cheap multi tool seems to have the same effect as a fancy one. I actually have a stripped down multitool thatâs just for fiahing and catches just as well as when I forget to switch from my âone punch manâ scatter blaster gun.
Thereâs a fishing records thread around here somewhere if youâve got some big catches youre proud of and still up2nothin
Thanks. Iâm using my original equipment orange multi-tool for fishing and it seems fine, but I had nothing to compare to. My other guns donât really have slots to spare for a fishing rig.
Early on there was discussion about the holo fish patterns, the amount of bites before a hook, bobbing the bobber in the water, and if any of this had any outcome on catch result.
The bobber bobbing making catches happen quicker was definitely in peopleâs heads, the activity itself made time feel shorter.
I think we quickly dismissed the biting pattern and the fish variation as having no connection to catch, the nibble amounts did not correspond to the size of the fish caught. Thatâs definitely random.
However, the physical properties of the holo fish are not.
There is a pattern and you can save yourself a lot of wasted lure if you pay attention to it.
I dismissed it months ago so had not been paying too much attention. However last night for whatever reason my brain twigged it and Iâm here to share my findings.
The fish that appear will appear in two patterns, either all the same size, or a mixture of fish sizes.
If theyâre all the same size, you will be catching a fish of that size.
The mixture usually comes with two fish and one larger fish. The larger fish will always be the one to take the lure.
If the smallest fish variant appears, there is a chance it will take the lure, rather than the two larger. This only seems to occur when it is a combination of one small fish, and two medium fish.
The mixed pattern variant will always follow this rule.
One small, two medium (usually the small)
Two medium, one large (guaranteed large)
Two large, one collosal. (Guaranteed collosal)
(There are other similar variants in shallow water but these are most common in deep waters.)
By keeping an eye out for this pattern, it can be helpful if youâre specifically trying to catch a small or large legendary fish etc.
If the pattern doesnât match the fish yr hunting, you can pull the line out of water before they nibble, thus preventing bait from being used up.
If a storm or the waves obscure the fish too much you can pop into photo mode just as they appear for a better look, just be careful not to pull yr line out when exiting photo mode unless you intend to
While itâs a handy thing to know and saved me dozens of bionic lure after noticing it last night, I still have trouble guaging if this is a medium/large combo or a large/collosal combo. The others are easy cos small and medium fish size difference are more noticeable.
After further observation Iâve noticed another telltale sign for those fishing for fish of specific size.
The three of a kind pattern tends to spawn the fish in one by one whereas the mixed size pattern will spawn the three fish in at once. This also makes collosal catches easier to spot too.
Great research! Gotta remember where this is so when I finally get my new PC and vid card set up, I can remind myself.
Nice work and matches early findings posted on Reddit below. I actually thought I had posted this link here already, but it may have been Discord. I can however verify this to work great, saving a lot of time/lure when trying to get a more specific catch.
Guide to Fishing
Note: Parts of the guide have likely changed over updates, as bait values changed, new fish have been added, and new content implemented.
That Reddit link is certainly more digestible than my pargraphed meanderings, learned some things from it too I didnât know too Thanks for sharing
Iâve noticed that if you go to the galactic trade terminal and to sell that at the very end is a list of fish. I was wondering if that list might be the fish available in that system. Or itâs just the fish that you can sell for a high price. If this has been covered my apologies.
I never noticed this before. If it is a representation of the fish in the area, its definitely an incomplete list, lookin in my current system I can see it only shows 2 of the 4 legendary from the âhauntedâ biomes and this system definitely has haunted biome fish.
edit:
On closer inspection, Iâm not so sure. The list of fish Iâm getting is also showing some fish from the Scorched biome and this system doesnât have any planets to match.
It might just be a randomised list of fish that are âin demandâ for the system? Or at least a preview of what the demand is. My current system theyâre all between minus 5 or minus 10 %
Checking this in an outlaw station btw, works on the contraband agent too.
I am pretty sure thatâs a somewhat random selection based on âdemand.â No fish is ever at or near base value, as far as I have seen, and the âbetween -5% and -10%â would likely be the best sellers you could be carrying.
This very low resale demand for fresh fish is why even the most expensive fish (at least the most expensive I have found, at 50K units) are worth cooking (which hugely cuts into their value) and then making into fish and rice. A 50k fish plus a kelp pod may be almost the same total base price as a fish and rice, but when the fish is minus 3 to 5k, at least, and fish and rice almost always sells at +2% or more the math wins out.
It should be noted that compared to fish and rice the âtwo fishâ and even worse the âthree fishâ plates are terrible products no matter what fish is used.
That last section of âSellâ items at a Galactic Trade terminal shows demand for a selection of Products, which includes fish since its introduction. Those fish appear to include fish of each rarity per biome, as well as fish found in âallâ biomes.
Speaking of âworthâ, we have quite a few choices nowadays. Do we sell for Units, sell for Nanites, use for bait, cook, consume, ingest, ⊠options!
I try release em unless the particular fish stack is in the double digits, then I sell those. Iâll release all fish once thereâs a qol update to make the process a little quicker, one at a time and having to reopen the inventory every time gets a bit stale very quickly unless youâve got a wash on and have time to kill
