The Lighter Side of NMS. Graphics Hiccups and Funny Pics

After deciding to sell my unused red orb split-wing; I left it behind on a Trading Post.
Sometime later I found it was still there but when I landed the ships merged in an unholy union.

Apparently upon sensing this unnatural behaviour, after a minute or so the red ship simply slid sideways and began floating away.

It turned over and over and drifted away like a lost balloon.

It was a strange farewell and it continued off through the atmosphere until eventually it was gone.

I loved “drifted away like a lost balloon”.

Every now and then, I’ll read something, and think “Damn, I wish I’d written that”.

You can kinda recreate that. With 2 landing pads at your base, land your ship on one then buy a ship when it lands on the other one. Delete the pad your old ship is on and boop the ship…

The fuselage of my hauler is rather long, and I often land to find myself underground, or in terrain.

My backpack has been freaking out lately. Then a whole station went crazy on me.

And the piece de resistance, the least functional creature I’ve ever seen.

ok, that is just bizarre…it looks like two different animals with one generated on top of another…:exploding_head: Did you put it out of it’s misery?

Isaac Newton? Who’s He?

He was actually quite a large creature. Over 7 meters if I recall. I think he would have won that fight

A while ago, there was some discussion about Vy’keen parentage - and whether they have mothers and fathers. This warrior’s name suggests we’ve solved one half of the puzzle.

Came across this natural formation and it really reminded me of the many cartoons by Leunig.

My game glitched the other night and all the final overlay sharp details in decals and most graphics disappeared.
One side effect was this baby-faced gek. Issue fixed upon reload.

Also reminds me of one of the mothers sculptures in Beetlejuice

Being really prosaic, this sort of thing is what led early data miners to declare that there were alien “greys” hidden in the NMS code.

In fact, the NPC faces are built up in a series of layers. Each layer adds more detail than the last, but they are, to some extent, transparent.

If your game gets overloaded, and slows down (as it often does), then faces can be slow to render. What you’re seeing there is the base textures, before the final finishes and details get added.

The original base textures are very primitive, and lack any fine detail. Some of them can look a lot like the loopy theorist’s ideas of “greys”.

There might be mummified ‘greys’… :grimacing:
