I think Brian Eno said something about how a new technologies kinks and flaws will be the thing people remember and love it for and try to emulate once it’s gone.
I feel that way about the old dial-up sound 
I was 56k from 97 to 04 
The dial up sound also acted as a parental lock because there was no way you were sneaking online without someone hearing it.

At work I sat next to the first server and modem the office had. As a DaVinci email was sent or arrived, I heard the sound.
Interestingly, one email error sent me (as admin) a record of the to and from members). I was the first in the region to know of a developing relationship between employees in two different cities. (The young woman at my site asked me to keep the knowledge secret and I did. They later married.)
