The idea about multiple players on pressure plate is great. I activated the top ball and was ejected very very high in the sky 
Maybe it’s now possible to make it work as you wanted.
I have been to Mr Noodles Playground. There was a racecourse there. Visiting the system is a problem for @Polyphemus specifically. It is a long story.

It looks to have been quite a festival. I just wish Team Mercury would give us more ways, and slightly easier ways, to find portals. Every method I’ve seen is old, and I’m not sure if any of them work anymore. And the latest Signal Booster mod won’t even let the game run.
Yeah, I was lucky that I recognised the name of a base in the teleport list that was in a system where I had marked a portal. (It used to be my main base, but the weather and colours of the planet have changed so drastically that I don’t enjoy the view anymore).
Optimally, build a base in viewing distance of a portal and name it something like portal base, for next time!
