They are always on a slope aren’t they? So you have to chase them down the hill to get the few Calium out of them.
Here’s what they looked like the last time I encountered them. Vastly different each time:

There may be even more types. Perhaps different types for different environment?

We discussed this earlier in this exact thread. There are two types of Calium, and there are two types of Radnox. It depends on the environment of the planet you’re on. As far as I know, it has to be extreme.

Extreme hot/cold planets have Radnox, and toxic/radioactive planets have Calium. I lived on an extreme lush planet for a while that had Murrine (?), but I haven’t been able to confirm if that is always the case. I haven’t found anything on extreme desert planets either.

And some more screenshots from the same planet.

I’m trying to keep it as varied as possible, avoiding repeating scenes.

The sunrises just keep being a spectacle on there:

A first sight in the entire game so far (with about 550 hours of gameplay on both survival and normal) - a very narrow spire of copper. When I approached it during a storm, I first thought that it was a navigation beacon!
I was pretty dumbfounded when I realized it to be a resource depot of very unusual shape:

And yet another huge mountain, this time however featuring a crater on top. Maybe we will get volcanoes with NEXT? I guess this is as close to a volcano as it gets right now in the game:

Last but not least, another stunning scene, this time created by a sunset while being in a large valley:

Alas though, the time of exploration on that planet might come to an end. I am about to reach my destination, which is an ancient ruin that was marked rather randomly on it. Also, I got pretty much max inventory space now with almost max Gek language and max Gek standing.

It was undeniably a grind to come that far (I put many, many hours into this), being eased by listening to CobraTV streams and other stuff meanwhile.

However, I most probably won’t forget any of all the wonders I encountered during that one journey … one of many that I have already experienced and hopefully of many more to come!

Wow I’ve never seen an ore deposit that long and thin, reminds me of my least favourite monument in Dublin (“The Spire”) though don’t let that detract from this rare discovery :3

And thus, my journey ends here … for now.

After several days of travelling, exploring, looting, scavanging and selling artifacts I finally reached my destination - that faraway ruin on the other side of the planet (actually, it wasn’t far at all - relatively speaking).

Once more again, the saying “The journey is the destination” has been proven true. That ruin might have not been that spectacular, but upon arriving there, I had an overwhelming feeling of accomplishment.

Much more so, since I haven’t come across a single ruin on my way, even though I took several detours and discovered about 200 destinations (with markers) and a lot of Monoliths and Plaques.

So this sight is indeed rare on that planet:

My next journey will be about filling up my storage containers at my base with each 1.000 units of rare, environmentally dependent resources of each kind, to be able to build up a farm and progress the story with the Mind Arc.

The first planet was pretty much a water world, but with large islands and huge continents, surrounded by deep oceans. I was able to harvest Star Brambles there, along with improving my standing with the Vy’keen only for a bit, because there were not a lot of Monoliths there and I hardly knew their language for being able to make the right choices.

It was pretty unspectacular, although the most interesting part were the giant underwater caves that stretched on for miles. Because I only make use of the Roamer exocraft (due to larger storage / upgraded speed), I only once fell into a cave and almost didn’t find my way out. However, the view within these caves is quite impressive:

“Only once” because after I was able to exit the cave (forcefully by terrain manipulator), I made sure not to ever go underwater with the Roamer again. Way too much of a pain to drive there, because of slow movement and the danger of falling into caves like shown above, with no exit in sight.

I solved the problem about not being able to jump to different islands with the Roamer by using its teleport ability - swam across the seas by myself and then teleporting the Roamer over.

The underwater scenery is always an impressive sight:

But I really stayed clear of any water with the Roamer afterwards. Ugh, it’s so friggin’ slow there.

The islands themselves weren’t spectacular at all, although beautiful to watch. Yet those missing trees really destroyed the immersion somewhat.

Most impressive sight - a planet with its moon above, hovering over the horizon:

Unfortunately, the fact that these objects are static really destroy the wonder of seeing such a thing, for it being always the same, always there. The beach view was a nice addition, though.

Nothing too interesting on that planet overall. Maybe I would’ve seen some more interesting sights if I stayed longer, but the effort and time was just not worth it. Once I got my stock of 1.000 Star Brambles, I left the planet, never to return again.

Omegon is supposed to exist on “extreme” lush planets and extreme dry (cactus) planets, but its bugged and it never spawns on the planet surfaces. Hello Games is not aware or does not want to admit this is the case, as they have responded to people reporting it on Zendesk, saying that Omegon is in the programming to appear on planets.

In my experience, extreme lush planets have Murrine.
