Not sure where to put this…

I am a “covers” collector. I have updated my collection and show 29 covers and use a larger size for bigger screens. Is that 29 number right or did I miss some? Minor updates like Aquarius didn’t get a cover.

I never realised until now that the major updates use traditional boxart Artwork and all the other updates use screenshots from the game

Yeah, the major updates key image looks like the top part of a well worn SciFi paperback. The intent at the start was to have a 1960s type SciFi feel in the game graphics.

They diverged from that after getting some push back about glaring colors. Then one update swung too far in the other direction, with overly muted color themes. One planet of mine look very dim, even at noon. I like the current wide variety in color palettes for varied worlds.

I don’t think you missed any ‘original’ cover. The initial release never had one I believe? There is one created by Qjimbo on the NMS Wiki.

The images shown in this post Screenshots 🖼 - #517 , has the upper ones all being the ‘major’ updates, with the expeditions at the bottom. Those never had a book cover that I am aware of

True, though the top of my cover collage uses the initial release’s background for the PlayStation wrap-around cover. I think.

As a follow-up to my “Covers” wallpaper, I offer below No Man’s Sky Announcement “banners” that appear in Steam. Progress is from oldest to newest. I show only one banner if it’s used more than once.

I’m showing these as separate images for easy use by anyone interested. I’m considering using each banner in a document journaling my travels, sightings, and more as I journey in this incredible, enormous, and weird universe.

I note that all banners have the same image dimensions, though the display size in an announcement may vary somewhat. Also, the use of banner images changed over time.

  • The earliest announcements were all text.
  • Then at Atlas Rises, large images were added, though not a banner above the announcement title.
  • Version 2.0, Beyond, saw the first use of a banner image above the announcement title.
  • Some updates and expeditions use a banner image but lack text on the image – maybe for a better look.
  • Some banners get multiple use.

The file name of each image uses the NMS version number and updated name. Hover to see.

Do you have a favorite banner? I’m partial to the Echoes banner. I like the overall design and color theme, but also the sharper lines around the characters.

@Clemm I have created a separate topic for these artworks, instead of getting drowned in topics that were not quite meant for this. Do let me know if you wish to see some changes or something added to the main post.

Thanks. I was not sure what the best topic title would be. This one is fine.

And the latest “Covers” update. You’ll notice that I’m an optimist.

I have a sudden urge to make each one of these in paper tole…

Also very tempting to have them made by one of those online book printer websites, so I can have fake pulp sci fi books on my shelf. If I were going to do this, I’d have the patch notes inside each one with the font set to the biggest it can be to bring the page count to a nice 300 or so :stuck_out_tongue: So they’re not just empty.

If I win the lotto or we sell the house, I’m doing it

Hmm. Now I have to find time to create docs for each update, complete with cover art, associated banner image, and colored banner headings for each type enhancement. The doc dimensions would need to approximate a SciFi book cover.

… Perhaps also with an ever-expanding table grid of which aspects of the game that update addresses compared to all past updates

Add links to the best update YouTube videos.
… Then maybe convert each doc to PDF format.

I am want to generate ideas of things I’d love to do … without regard to real time available to do them.

… Like a Xenophotography Guide for No Man’s Sky. I have collected a bunch of topics and sub-topics but am no where near the drafting phase. My OneNote notebook is pretty darned large, though.
