Monsterous Encounters

I did what KillTrak did, and I got about 30 eggs this morning. It works like a charm.

Great shots again! I totally forgot about camera mode with those little creeps. I’ll give it a shot tonight.

Oh man I’m having so much fun building wooden walls around their eggs. Sometimes they will come in but they just head butt me, and even can knock you outside the walls LMAO.

The one where I’m in the box with them I called “Hot Mess” LMAO

I love their faces and their pointy teeth. They remind me so much of the Alien movies. And so do their eggs. They look just like the Alien movie eggs.

Happy Traveling!

I just realized that these look a lot like the monsters from the movie Pitch Black!!

So I got a few missions to kill some of them (that’s what you get for not understanding the language and just replying “yes, yes!”), and since I considered the roof-trick a bit unsportsman-like I decided to take them on in the field… Boy, did I get my ass handed to me. I killed the necessary amount of them, quite a few more actually, but after a while the rest of them got me for lunch as compensation.

I really wish these would occur in free-roaming swarms on some planets, that would make for some really cool moments. I can kill multiple walkers attacking at once without breaking a sweat, and seeing that all predators are completely passive towards me now, these things are essentially the only credible threat I have left… And I’m only just about mid-game.

The interesting thing seems to be that their attack basically ignores hitpoints. If they have a nib at you when your shields are down, you’re dead, even with full health (I think I have about 8 at the moment?). HG might think about giving them a spitting attack that does a bit less damage but can pick off travellers on roofs… Give different kinds of attacks to other creatures too while you’re at it. Take a few looks into a Warhammer 40K monster manual for inspiration. Running away from these things lead me into some really cool situations, and the game seems in dire need of a bit of unpredictability.

Also, now I need to get 200 pugneum to fix my broken scatter blaster… without my scatter blaster, obviously. That’s gonna be interesting. It would be interesting if things had a chance of breaking more often, not just on death. I guess I’m drifting off-topic here…

Well, they aren’t in swarms but solitary eggs guarded by bunches of nasties can be found on barren/airless type worlds.
If you want a challenge, land on one of those worlds & just start walking around until you find an egg.
No buildings to hide in/on. Ship is miles away.
Just you & them with nothing but moonscape between you.
See if you can ‘earn’ that larval core that way.

Before any of the big updates or the first reset I remember, this extreme planet, not sure if it said it was extreme back then. It was white, snow planet i think, with mountain cliff islands. Predators everywhere, with one being a white six legged cat with like blue strips, very fast. It was an oh sh!t moment, in a otherwise chill time heading to the center. I remember scrambling off cliffs, getting mauled and getting hurt by the fall. The cats did kill me, not sure I ever got my stuff back, got out of there. That was their planet.

Anywho, I thought it was awesome. I was okay with predators attacking first and the crazy other worldly impossible terrains.

Typo I hope? On the other hand a predictor is a scary encounter. (I’m actually not sure if the brand is known outside of Belgium, but a predictor is used to check for pregnancy)

Oops, fixed. That would be some aliens the movie stuff. LOL.

I don’t mind using the walls for the eggs. I don’t like getting killed in this game and trying to find my grave, and then having my technology broken.

As someone had mentioned, I think they said building the walls was unsportsmanlike. I don’t consider that at all. It’s not a gltch, nor is it against the game rules to do. I think it was a very clever idea by Killtrak.

My play time is precious after I get home from work, and I don’t want to spend it hunting for my grave.

But I think it’s fun running from the creatures like the egg ones and jumping around on the building roof and zapping them from up there. lol

Avoiding these things could get more complicated soon, according to this “preview” from the 1.59 release notes.

Yep that is very true because they will be able to spit at you. No more standing up on the buildings lol
