The “Tucson Tritium Trials” peaked around this exact time in early March 1980. It involved the American Atomics Corporation, a watch-dial factory in Tucson, Arizona, which was forced into bankruptcy and investigated by the National Guard and regulatory agencies after tritium was discovered in food and water near the plant.
