I am a big fan of 50s and 60s sci-fi; and during this time, the prevalent look for spaceships was the flying saucer or circular UFO. The image below is the spaceship from the movie Forbidden Planet.
You can have a perfectly circular corvette via glitch building techniques. You can easily find instructional videos on YouTube. However, I do not have the patience for glitch building. So if you’re like me and you also like the circular look, this might be more up your alley. You can build this very quickly, it has 4 horizontal layers and its footprint is 3x3. I have not done the Breach Expedition yet, so there may now be better parts available.
Start with the Mag-Field Landing Thrusters on the bottom-most layer and place the walkway of your choice right on top of it.
Next add a Titan-Class Landing Bay in the back.
Now add 3 Speedbird Fairings to the front and on the left and right.
But you will need to flip all 3 Speedbird Fairings vertically, so it should look like this.
Now add 4 Speedbird Dome Sections to the 4 corners. You have to flip these vertically as well. The second layer is now done.
For the third layer, add the walkway of your choice right in the middle.
Then place the Thunderbird-Class Cockpit in the front and 2 Medusa-Class Reactors to the left and right. While you only need 1 reactor, I’ve added 2 for symmetry and pleasing aesthetics.
For the thrusters, add the Twin Dynamo Jets to the rear.
Then 4 non-flipped Speedbird Dome Sections to each of the 4 corners. Third layer is now done.
The last layer, the top layer, is just the weapon system of your choice. I have selected the Photon Cannon Array. And that’s it. All that’s left is to color it however you want and decorate the interior. You do have to add an Internal Stairway so that you can access the cockpit. If you go larger than 3x3, the somewhat circular look disappears and it looks more like a square.
As you can see, it is somewhat circular and I’ve gone with a metallic look. And in all honesty, I’m quite happy with it.
