I might have poked a whispering egg next to caves, thinking the pet could heroically defend me. (Hint: He has no weapons, and neither teeth nor claws…)
In the moment the biohorrors showed up… he turned around and dove into the cave, saying something like “ooh shiny rocks!” 
And after I barely survived, and also stumbled into the cave, he was all “hi friend!”
