Xeno Arena

At this point, I think I would enjoy whatever they throw our way. :joy:

I have been summoned by the System Champion

Wish me luck.

It’s really tense. The Korvax seem to be conspiring while the Gek tells me everything he has is riding on this battle. He pleads with me to do everything possible to win.

I can definitely see them adding a rhythm minigame, perhaps something to improve the music making (bytebeat) items in the game?

Or perhaps a dance emote customization? I would enjoy random moonwalks and disco fever.

Challenging Oceanus is not advised at this time :joy:

The Korvax are clearly into this whole battle thing

A korvax kept standing up close and looking at my guys and getting in the way of my view. They seem very keen on it.

Also Oceanus mentioned something about Korvax too @sheralmyst

There are many more! Beyond Nada and Polo’s home. Travelers play here, but my most challenging opponent was a Korvax in Calypso. It took me several iterations to defeat them!

Had to battle a champion on a space station that was nestled in a planetary ring so vision was already impaired.

I imagined the champion said some anime line about how training their pokemon around the debris created by a planets gravitational strength makes their pokemon the best pokemon and unlike any other I’ve fought. And I’m sure I’ll learn that their training method was set in place by some back story trauma I will inevitably learn before beating them. Thats basically every episode of pokemon for those unfamiliar. I spoiled the whole lot for you.

Its pretty left field alright, I’d say he appreciated the change of scenery and stylistic restrictions.

“A set of unique companions are available as rewards for accomplishments in the Arena League.”

Looks like theres creature rewards tied to the new titles, similar to fishing and waste collection.

WTF?

First we get garbage truck simulator, now we get pokemon? They’re not going to stop until they rebuilt every game in existence in the NMS engine, are they?

Technically they started with rocket league when they added the sphere generator and exo craft. Some assmebly required

Hilarious. :joy_cat: I take it Nintendo lost the case against Palworld.

I’m not super into Pokemon (I play it only when I’m super bored by clicking random cute animals, I don’t know the rules, whether yellow is stronger than left, or loud stronger than vegetable, or whatever it was?) but I’ll check these xenos out after work, HG put effort into this and they are probably laughing their butts off.

Was this not maybe planned for April 1?

I think that is correct.

To me, this is like HG telling Nintendo, get over yourself. Come down off your high horse and play with the rest of us.

Now, how soon before someone builds us a chart. This type most effective against that type etc….

I do recall sean retweeting palworld devs and making jokes about the situation back when it started. I would say that may or may not have been around the time this idea was put into motion :joy: HG do like to show solidarity to other devs in their work :stuck_out_tongue:

Each time you beat a champion, you’re guided back to Oceanus and you have the opportunity to ask them about themselves.

I’m enjoying learning about them and letting the battles thrown my way guide which creatures I focus on levelling.

Do these empty genes open up after we fill the others? Are any reserved for gene sequencing? Has anyone sequenced an egg yet? I do not have one available right now and have never really experimented with it much.

It seems that adding a new creature to the battle lineup get extra credits so you can”catch up” with your higher level creatures.

I also see that each creature needs to engage in battle so they can get credits to level up with.

The blank ones are actually just the move set, clicking on one will switch over to that section and the genetic profile sections become the blank ones on that page.

Getting a creature up to 30 will allow us to edit the moveset they have, so technically this would be editing the blank ones in this screen of yours :stuck_out_tongue:

I really struggled with my 2nd champion there. They had a really good move combination that could wipe out most my guys in one hit even if strong against their type, they also had a suicide move that allowed their next creature to block the next 6 attacks. Got unlucky with the space station star system proc gen RNG gods.

Went and levelled them up some more so they could survive the initial onslaught and was happy when I finally beat them with one final party line-up re-arrange.

OMG you can actually spectate other players battles with eachother and their battles with Oceanus <3 So much more life brought to that corner of the Anomaly.

I couldve sworn people were talking about this exact area very recently, that it was seeming barren and needing some sort of community hubbub to liven it up and reason to hang around there.

Who was that? I wanna say jedidia and sheral but I could be very wrong. Show yourselves and accept a well earned pat on the back for willing it to be.

I quickly tried 2-3 rounds, but am still confused. I battled another player (I assume) who used 1 pet and 2 different moves, and just smashed my three newbs. Even using different type attacks “wasn’t very effective”, must have been quite a level imbalance?

In the topright corner, IIRC, there were 2 symbols, do they indicate the enemy’s strengths? Or weaknesses? I haven’t learned them all by heart yet, not even my own, so that didn’t help…

Then there are skills that e.g. do something and then improve the enemy’s hitroll or damroll or hp…? And I can (possibly when wounded, instead of switching) poison myself and give the next two pets a bonus? Did I read that right?

Yup. I faced a very annoying npc champion that had a powerful one hit move on its starter, if i survived that onslaught and got it near death, it used a suicide move that gave the next creature a 100% block chance for six moves, long enough for it to whittle my next two down.

Had to go train up and rethink strategy outside of “this guy good against toxic”.

Your companions personality traits also allow tjem to make random bonus unlisted moves they may not otherwise have, sometimes they can really save the day and make it feel like team work

As for the stats, top right youll see enemies info. Hovering will give more details. They have their base creature class from c to s but may also have a number or the letter a.

“A” means, no evolution points, and a number means how many evolution points have been put into it. 30 seems to be the highest number, at which point a creatures moveset can be customized.

Experience or mutation points are gained by battle participation and creatures are levelled up in the compendium.

Sometime you get special pellets as a reward, summon any creature, even if they havent battled, and feeding them the special pellet allows them to level up when you enter the compendium.

@AdaRynin your first battle should be against Oceanis, the new NPC, they have guidance and some backstory to share as well as a tutorial battle. Later they provide daily challenges via a seed specific team for all players to fight against and prove their mettel

I believe you should follow the guidance in the milestone section under discoveries. This will lead you from NPC to NPC battle at Archives. Once those battles are won, you will get the attention of the System Champion and be summoned to the Space Station.

Winning that battle gives you a treat you can feed to your pokemon, I mean creature companions.

It will be a while before I battle an actual player

Speaking of which, I wonder what will keep players from raising their stats via save editor…

@toddumptious I also lost the 2nd Champion battle. I jumped right back in with a different arrangement and won.

At one point, they had a creature that could absorb my hits and use it to heal. I threw a 3 punch combo at them and they healed with the first 2 but the 3rd got thru and erased the gains. I buffed on the previous turn to increase my hit damage by 36%. It won’t me the match. My critters were all passed out and the 3rd hanging by a breath.

Its a fairly legitimate turn based rpg battle system they made for themselves here. Pokemon but the passive personality abilities at an extra layer of fun.

Apparently creature scanning works different now and we can find creatures with rare legendary abilities.

Also oceanus’s companion rewards all look unique and cute as fun. I cant wait to gwt the hermit crab in the corrupted sentinel shell

Emily is following along somehat imperfectly… (AI Summary of topic)

“The No Man’s Sky community is discussing the “Xeno Arena” update, a turn-based creature battle system reminiscent of Pokémon, introduced in the “Iteration: Oceanus” patch.”
