Continued from Fauna & Cute Creepies (Worlds Update)
The grand Chariot
I wish they showed their true size when on the Anomaly
Nice, I’ve been getting more walking rocks recently. Thanks to a feature that records everything temporarily, I can take a screenshot, they run very fast. That one ran up a cliff and I couldn’t even follow.
Genuinely my most unsettling NMS experience. Felt like I’d walked into an A24 horror movie: the monster is a representation of your mother issues.
No less unsettling once I got my torch on it either.
I had yet to encoutner these in the wild after the last update, had actually forgot they were even a thing.
I had gone looking for them on infested planets when the last update landed but gave up soon thereafter. What I learned from this experience was… They don’t need an infested planet to make an appearance.
I had just popped by to dig for corvette modules.
This must be one of the new creature types added with the Worlds Updates but I had yet to encounter one.
It behaves and looks similar to those creatures that tunnel under the surface and pop out like lethal spinning dolphins or, some sort of salmon…
Except, it sticks to the surface. It just moves around real fast like a millipede, it’s bladey bits behaving like a buncha legs.
Occasionally it would get some air when colidding with a rock or shrub before landing back on the ground.
Hard to capture that or all of it in a photo as it just looks like I took a picture of some rocks. I came across it during a stream last night so if you check my perma death footage on my channel and scrub through you’ll spot me chasing after it for a spell.
You can kind of make out it’s unique particle system too, it pushes leaves aside/kicks them up as it moves
It’s Permadeath but there’s still always time to stop and scan the roses.
What’s this fella up to?
Bobbin for crab apples ![]()
Bonus fishy
These creepies aren’t cute. Really they are just extra creepy.
Just the standard rolling sphere creature….
Until it rolls so you can see the other side.
You can see why Sauron sent someone else to do his busy work out in middle earth. It would have just been embarrassing for Mordor.
Edit: kicking myself for not thinking of this one sooner
“Eyes would roll if anyone saw”
They’ve discovered organised religion and interspecies cooperation.
I think I walked in on a wedding ceremony

Has anyone ever found a creature with these exact parameters?
Whose that Pokemon?!
We could make it a fun Scavenger hunt where people share a photo any time they do.
It’s a pity there’s no good search or filters in the Discovery tab. That was among my first Zendesk tickets to HG, and they added the Discovery tab. But it’s the utter minimum, what can I actually do with this tab?
What would you want to do in a Discovery search? Here’s one example, “find that funny pokemon again!” Can’t declare everything I see a “wonder.”
I assume nobody searches for plants or rocks, but, who knows.
Similar, you want to retrace your steps, but only remember the planet’s biome, colour, resource, number of bases, type, first and last visited date, … would be nice to be able to filter by that. I used to keep my own log (before portal glyphs) but several resets later, I think, if they are not persistent, then why bother.
I commonly have the situation that I open the game and find myself standing in front of a portal or teleporter. When I logged off, did I just arrive here, or was I about to choose where to go next away from here? Where even am I? Was I visiting someone or am I exploring a region where I have bases and farms? In which galaxy am I even?!
Strange that a spacefarer does not have a travel log that shows that.
(I would understand if such a tab doesn’t automatically reveal all portals, but it could at least remember the ones I found.)
For a short while, years ago, there was an official feature, where screenshots had a color code in them from which you could derive on which planet they were taken, and you could get back there! It was nice, why was that removed?
Metadata of where we took our photos when we take them would be incredible. I am not a fan of geotagging in reality but I would not say no to this in NMS.
Is this what the colour code feature you mentioned did? I actually do not recall this, was the colour code only viewable when the screenshot was opened in something like notepad++ ?
No it was visible like a barcode. In the game startscreen was a button with a camera icon , you browsed to a screenshot, and it loaded you into the game at that spot.
I wrote a wiki article aboit it, but it was deleted. Apparently it was a dev/test feature that was not meant to be public. Well, not my fault, give us more of your dev features plz. ![]()
I don’t remember this. However, for many years, my screenshots taken in photo mode have had the location’s portal code in the bottom left-hand corner. Still happens now.
Oh wow, my old article is still there! They just marked it as removed/obsolete feature, that’s a good way of handling it. Note the colored barcode under the glyphs:
