Music Tastes among ETARCers?

Went to see Mister Romantic last night.

It’s a stage show by John C Reilly where he sings old love songs, primarily from the vaudeville era.

He’s carried out on stage in a large steam trunker. He has no memory of what happened before, he just knows when the box is opened he has to put on a show. Then he goes back in the box…

However, he doesn’t have to go back in the box, if he can convince one person in the audience who will love him… Forever.

The show is 50% audience improv while he tries to find that one person during and between songs. The audience member is handed a love card, representing what’s inside his heart. The prompt of rejection is contained within so that every audience remember would respond “I’m afraid not”.

Some of the funniest crowd work I’ve seen in a long long time, which makes each show a personal and special moment.

I can’t relay much of it well without context and the moment but he didn’t realise they weren’t docked seats and nearly took some poor woman out, which he immediately turned into a bit and recovered graciously.

Really felt like we witnessed something special, my dad even spotted Glen Hansard in the audience on the way out.

Near the venue, there is a pub that my Grandad worked at in the 40s so my dad wanted to go there for a pint before the bus.

Who should walk in but Glen Hansard. I hate bothering celebrities etc I’ve been in proximity to my biggest heroes on several occasions randomly in the street and I did my best to become invisible and not fan out.

My dad? Not a chance. He bothered poor Cillian Murphy once who was out with his extended family to celebrate the oscar nom at a restaurant.

So I knew what was coming next. Especially when John C Reilly and his band walked in :face_with_peeking_eye:

Long story short, I have two memorable photos I would never have gotten myself if my dad wasn’t such a social butterfly with zero fucks given.

I know by now, you cannot stop a senior citizen.

I figured you’ll all be seeing my face soon since I’ll be No Man Sky’s Next Top Model when the jacket arrives and I show it off, so here I be (and badly in need of a trim).
