In all my previous playthroughs I usually have the grenade launcher pretty early on so my first encounter with quads and regular sentinels ends pretty quickly. My VR playthrough is the first where I’ve yet to get the launcher and only now have I learned that, armoured sentinels can heal the quads. Blew my mind. Then they blew off my kneecaps. ---

The moment my hazmat glove touches it, Four Sentinels spawn right on top of me! I’m gonna die! two fliers and two dogs! Then I realise that two of the plants still have their Pearls. Hmm… Being the greedy sort, and feeling righteously justified, I grab the last two Pearls and run like hell! Oops! run _toward_ your ship, Stupid! In the next flat area I tried to call my ship, but it wouldn’t land anywhere! Panic! Now! They are closing in again! Just managed to kill myself by jumping off a mountainside. Wasn’t aware a fall could insta-kill you, at least not after slowing myself down as much as I did. It was a high cliff, though. One of the highest I’ve seen in NMS. Why do you think I jumped off? Pity for the rare plant worth half a million I had in my pack, everything else is pretty easily replaceable… ---

Did that once off a Trading Post in P/death mode. I was furious with myself…was about 7 hours in & forgot my backpack wasn’t recharged. ---

Well…my current p/death save has just over 100 hours & with all the {S} goodies (plus double biome shields) I’m quite comfortable now. The longer you play, the more you have to lose so you do get a bit paranoid 🤪 ---

When you die in survival mode, you don’t leave a grave. You lose all your inventory items. ---

Only the base inventory. The cargo slots are save. I’m not _quite_ sure how I feel about that. It feels half-baked, yet unless I feel what it would feel like to lose it _all_ I can’t say if I find it preferable or not. I think one of the major problems I have is that danger is so rare that my brain doesn’t stop me from doing stupid things without consideration, only to be then reminded that “oh, right, I totally forgot dying was a thing in this game. Well, there goes the inventory.” It’s kind of realistic, I guess. So given that the only reason I die of is plain stupidity, I guess I’m kind of glad the punishment isn’t _too_ harsh. Also, pretty much the reason why I don’t play permadeath. I lost an over 50 hours game pretty much simply because I forgot that I wasn’t invincible. Permadeath is supposed to keep you on your toes and make you careful and aware of the very real danger all the time, but in NMS I just forget that dying is even an option, and getting reminded of it by having to start a new game wasn’t my cup of tea I found. ---

It is quite a kick to lose an established permadeath save. For this reason I don’t switch modes much to ensure I remain focused. Little things like colours, my choice of ship, base/freighter design and character models are all reminders that I’m not invincible. My Legacy (normal) save is almost like creative mode; Rich, lavish colours, loaded with goodies, nice ships and not much to lose when messing about. Its my spoilt brat game 😁 ---

You get to keep your cargo inventory? I didn’t realize that. Then again, I haven’t died in quite some time. I’m about 30 hours into a new permadeath save in Beyond, and with a few s-class upgrades not much is scary anymore. I can see how it lulls people into a false sense of security. At this point, I’m just waiting for the moment when I boost off the side of a cliff and forget to save enough to break my fall. ☠ 😭 ---

Had the brilliant idea to attempt a skydive from a frigate in a good position onto my freighter. Ended… predictably. Still trying to park a frigate in a way to attempt to jump onto a space station. Don’t think it will end any differently. ---
